What we are and what we do: Aims and Objectives
We are a non-profit non-political association. To learn more read our Articles of Associatiom (Statuto - in Italian)
Our aims and objectives:Every year, we organize:
- renewing the bonds of friendship between former students and former teachers
- organizing meetings and talks on maritime topics of interest
- sharing the working experience of our members with the students of maritime schools
- helping school leavers understand the maritime work environment so as to make it easier for them to find a job in the maritime field
- two official ceremonies to award scholarships to the best students of ITN S. Giorgio
- two social dinners
- lectures and talks on maritime topics of relevance
- guided tours and visits to the city historical centre, exhibitions and museums
- a cruise or trip (Learn more)
La Carretta, our newsletter, is issued at intervals during the year.
Our Association can provide, on request:
- talks on maritime topics
- English tuition (General English and Maritime English, support to pass professional exams (Patentino, Patente, Pilot, etc.) - (learn more)
- lessons to learn how to use a PC (elementary, beginners)
- the building of simple websites

June 1987
The Association was founded on 4th June, 1987 during a meeting held at ITN 'S. Giorgio' by Aldo Marletta (ITN S. Giorgio Headmaster), Rinaldo Sidri, Armando Fioravanti, Massimo Repetto, Sergio Girardini, Paolo Gianetta, Angelo Rossetti, Giovanni Comune, Maurizio Castrignanò, Armando Spezzaferro, Dante Cacchioli, Edoardo Mancini, Guido Esposito, Mario De Simone, Giacomo Longo.
March 1988
The first meeting of the Association was held in the Quadrivium Hall. It was attended by 95 people who elected:Mr Cacchioli has always been re-elected and still is our Secretary.
- President: Paolo Generale
- Secretary: Dante Cacchioli
- Treasurer: Rinaldo Sidri
September 1989
Paolo Generale, the President, resigned and was replaced by Edoardo Mancini.
December 1989
The Board decided to name the Association newsbullet "Carretta" (after the name of the newspaper the students once used to write).
January 1990
The Association became official taking the name of "Associazione ex Alunni ITN s.Giorgio" on 19 January, 1990 c/o the notary, Mr.Jommi.
April 1990
The first number of the Carretta was issued.
April 1991
The volume "L'Istituto Tecnico Nautico San Giorgio nel tempo" was published by the Association.
May1994
On 3 May, Sergio Girardini temporarely replaced the deceased Mancini. On 24 May, Massimo Figari was elected President.
September 1995
On 2 September, the School hall was dedicated to Admiral Durand De La Penne, former student of the School. The plate was unveiled on 21 October.
December 1998
During a meeting, on 11 December, membership was extended to all the teachers who had worked at ITN S.Giorgio for at least three years.
January 1999
On 1 January, the Association name was modified into "Associazione ex Allievi e Docenti I.T.N. San Giorgio of Genova".
March 2000
The Association was opened to the sympathisers.
February 2007
Francesco Boero was elected President.
March 2007
The volume "La STORIA dell'Istituto Tecnico Nautico San Giorgio", written by Virgilio Bozzo e Armando Fioravanti, was published.
April 2007
Mario Gandolfi was elected President.
October 2010
The Association moved from the old premises in P.zza Palermo to the new premises locatated in Calata Darsena, opposite I.T.N. San Giorgio main entrance.
December 2011
Aurelio Banchetti was elected Honorary President.
February 2014
Aurelio Banchetti passed away.
March 2016
Francesco Boero was elected President.
October - December 2016
'Bicentenary of Istruzioine Natica in Genoa' Celebrations.
September 2019
Our Vice President, Prof. Armando Fioravanti passed away.
October 2020
Comandante Mario Gandolfi, our President Emeritus, passed away.

Our premises are moved to Vico Dell'Agnello 2/28, 16124 c/o Collegio capitani
